Their goal is to give a new leash on life to rescue dogs and military heroes empowering warriors to return to civilian life with dignity and independence. “The Mount Dora Boomerz evolved from a group of friends who brought their instruments and voices together to play music for fun” said Rachel Williams, one of the original members. “Eventually we began to play private parties and fundraisers for nonprofit groups such as Camp Challenge, Camp Boggy Creek, the American Heart Association, and the American Red Cross for victims of the 2005 Tsunami. From our debut in 2000 when we played a free concert in Donnelly Park sponsored by the City of Mount Dora to our final concert in January, 2007, our band helped to raise close to $25,000 for nonprofit groups. We decided to bring the band out of retirement because we wanted to. It was time.”
The eight member band features Lake County residents: John Burkhart, vocals; Steve Williams, bass; Robert Cohen, drums; Bob Sharff, guitar; Logan Heinzelman, keyboard; Rachel Williams, Carole Warshaw, and Jane Trimble, vocals.
