Mount Dora Lawn Bowling – Mixing Fun with a Serious Cause

Mount Dora Lawn Bowling - Bowling for a Cause

Sylvia Mackey is an enthusiastic lawn bowler.  She also suffers from diabetes.  And that’s where two aspects of her life collide.

Sylvia is organizing the Fourth Annual Lawn Bowling Tournament to benefit the American Diabetes Association this Thursday, February 25 at 9:30 a.m.

IMG_5590The public is invited to attend.  There will 20 teams, playing in mixed pairs.  Each team is donating $40.00 to compete.  All proceeds will benefits the American Diabetes Association. The competitors will play three games of ten ends.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners.  There will also be door prizes awarded.

Mackey says there will be someone present onsite to check blood sugar.  The public is invited to watch the competition.  The tournament should be a fun morning with teams decked out in their whites, bowling their best games for the cause.  The Hometown Market will be donating fruit – so the players can have a healthy snack to accompany their own sack lunches.

Mackey is hopeful the American Diabetes Association and Stop Diabetes will match the funds that are collected by the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Association.

The Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club is located at 125 Edgerton Court, in downtown Mount Dora, at the end of Donnelly Street.  Come down to watch the tournament, learn more about diabetes and diabetes prevention – donations will be accepted from non-players, as well.

The event is a great way for the public to learn more about the fun of lawn bowling at the local club – and brings awareness to the seriousness of diabetes.
